The Brigade
These are active uniformed first aides who volunteer to help out in the community. The membership aspect is largely ranked and members fall into a hierarchical structure of reporting. Anyone is eligible to join the Brigade movement after successfully completing the advanced first aid course. St John works with various organisations where they can volunteer their work. All the work they do is recorded in hours which earn them a promotion/higher title from an ordinary member, i.e. from member to Officer to Commander up to Knight or Dame. Membership of the Brigade provides excellent opportunities for members of the public generally to learn how to give useful service to the community in all spheres. Brigade members get to participate in various activities to strengthen their first aid skills, such activities can be sporting events, church gatherings or musical concerts.
